The bridge over the Jordan and Salt Lake Canal at approximately 80 East and 8000 South is getting a makeover.

The Midvale City Council unanimously approved a resolution in January that sees the city enter an agreement with the Utah Department of Transportation to reconstruct the bridge.

Work is estimated to begin this fall after design work is completed this spring and a contractor is selected.

“Obviously canal companies don’t want you working around it when there’s water in the canals so work will probably begin after October to mid-October timeframe,” City Engineer Keith Ludwig told the council.

As part of the UDOT’s Bridge Formula Program, money is provided to rehabilitate or replace bridges in poor condition and not already part of the federal aid system.

The bridge will be done in a package with four bridges in Sandy and one in Draper.

UDOT will administer design and construction contracts with city officials providing input in all phases of the process. Financially, $203,100 from city coffers, is a required 6.77% match. λ
