Hillcrest High School’s famed and once state-of-the-art auditorium took its final curtain call.

After the construction crew weakened its foundation and removed a steel frame, the auditorium fell to the east of its foundation at 12:16 p.m., Monday, Aug. 16. It was the last part standing of the school that was built in 1962.

Just to the east of the demolition, students, on the first day of school, were in class or at lunch in the new Hillcrest High.

Crews are expected to continue removing the old’s school foundation and debris. A new parking lot is expected by December and playing fields will be put in during the spring.
