Free family fitness program offered in new year

Want an affordable way to reach your fitness goals? Midvale United, the Boys & Girls Club and Copperview Recreation Center have teamed up to offer a free 12-week family fitness program.

The “12X12X12” program is designed to educate families on becoming fit together. “Our hope is that individuals will make goals to lose 12 pounds or decrease their blood pressure by 12 points and walk 12,000 steps every day,” said Eleanor Shields, with Midvale United.

The program begins on Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. with pre-assessments where participants will be weighed and have their waist size, heart rate and blood pressure measured. A Zumba class will follow at 6:30 p.m., with a healthy tip and snack to conclude the evening.

At the end of the 12-week program, a 5K will be held along with a 1K for kids.
