Anything Can Happen! The Nutcracker. Enter the world of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” and adventure with Clara through the fairytale story. Conquer the Mouse King, travel with the snowflakes and dance with the Sugar Plum Fairy. Your family will love this musical movement adventure.

Jan. 24, 2 p.m. Families

January Drop-In Craft: Packing Peanut Snowman. Drop in anytime between 2 and 6 p.m. to assemble your very own Packing Peanut Snowman. We have all of the supplies. Just bring yourself and your kids (if you want) and make a fun, wintry decoration.

Family Movie Night. Come watch “Kung Fu Panda 2.”

Jan. 28, 3 p.m.Ages 12 to 17

Write Your Own Ending. Join Daniel the Librarian for an afternoon full of adventure, suspense and surprises. Teens will use their creativity to create original works of fiction, enjoy some tasty treats and play the ultimate “Choose Your Own Adventure” game.

Feb. 6, 7 p.m.Ages 5 and up

Storytelling Concert with Donald Davis and Bil Lepp. Bil is a six-time champion of the West Virginia Liar's Contest, and while his stories may not be completely true, they are always honest. Donald tells stories so personal, you’re sure to find yourself in every one of them—and a friend along the way. A "don't miss this one" performance presented in partnership with the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival Midwinter Conference. This event will be held at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center (1355 West 3100 South, West Valley City). No strollers or babes in arms please.

Gotta Move! Combining movement and music, Gotta Move! is an active program for young children, featuring a story break. Come prepared to move and groove! All ages welcome. No registration required.

Every Thurs., 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.Ages 3 and under Wee Read. An adult must attend and participate. Program will include short stories, a few interactive songs and fingerplays. After, there will be time for children to play with toys and parents to interact. This session runs Jan. 12-26. Registration begins Tue. Jan 3, 10 a.m., and continues until all spots are filled.

Angel Shannon’s Lighten Up. Get out the crayons, the construction paper, the Play-Doh and the paste and glue. It’s an “After-School Special” for adults that will remind you to lighten up and rediscover your happy-go-lucky inner child.

Whimore Nonfiction Book Club. Join us monthly to discuss new and noteworthy nonfiction books. This month’s book is “The Dressmaker of Khair Khana” by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon. Open to all adults.

No Girls Allowed. Join us for games, activities and fun – just for boys! A new theme every month. Tickets will be available the day of the program beginning at 3:45 p.m. and continuing until the program begins at 4 p.m.

Great Reads for Girls: A Mother/Daughter Book Club. Join the group for lively discussions, activities, friendship and fun. This month we’ll be reading “Ruby Lu, Brave and True” by Lenore Look and celebrating Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year Storywalk. Come enjoy our storywalk to celebrate Chinese New Year. Follow the arrows around the library to read the story and receive a small prize at the children’s desk when you finish.

TALEs with TAU – Therapy Animals of Utah. This program provides humane education lessons along with the opportunity for each child to read one-on-one with a trained pet partner team. It builds kindness, compassion and respect towards animals, encourages language and reading skills in a non-judgmental environment , increases reading confidence and motivation to read and may lower the stress level of young readers. Free tickets will be available starting at 3:45 p.m.
