Many New Year’s resolutions center around weight loss. For the second year, Copperview Recreation Center is providing a fitness incentive program to assist with those goals.

The “Passport to Fitness Incentive Program: A Journey to a Healthier You” will be a free program offered to the rec center’s fitness and aerobic patrons beginning Jan. 9 and ending on March 17. Each “passenger” will have their attendance at fitness classes and the weight room marked on passports that will be kept at the rec center while their names and progress will be charted on the lobby wall.

“The main objective of the program is to get people in the center -- attending our group fitness classes, trying out the fitness room and getting into a healthy habit of regular exercise,” Facility Manager Bess Thompson said.

Classes offered at the rec center for the 10 week program will include Zumba, Circuit, Pilates and Yoga, with schedules listed on the center’s website. Copperview also plans to add TRX classes at the beginning of the year.

There will be five levels of “travels” that “passengers” can reach during the duration of the program. After attending five classes, participants will be considered a “coach traveler;” after fifteen classes a “silver traveler;” after 25 a “gold traveler;” after 35 a “platinum traveler;” and with 45 classes attended, “diamond traveler” status is achieved. Prizes will be given to the top finishers.

Thompson said she hopes this will help get people moving and trying out other fitness classes and possibilities to achieve an ideal weight and lifestyle.
