Candy Tippets donates time, energy to Midvale

It’s not hard to find Candy in the community. Candy Tippets is a busy mother, grandmother and employee, but she still gives her time to make Midvale a better place.

Tippets has called Midvale home for the last six years but she’s been involved in volunteer work even longer than that

“I actually joined the Midvale Arts Council and started directing the summer musical before I officially moved,” Tippets said.

Tippets has been on the council ever since. The council puts on four theater productions a year, as well as a monthly entertainment program for Midvale residents. Since 2006, Tippets has directed Footloose, High School Musical and Honk.

As part of her duties on the council, she runs the Youth Ambassadors program. The youth chosen for this service-oriented scholarship have to come up with a plan of service to benefit citizens of Midvale, and Tippets helps them make sure their ideas happen.

“It’s really fun to work with those kids and see them become leaders in the community,” she said.

In 2009, Tippets joined the Harvest Days committee. The next year, Mayor JoAnn Seghini asked her to chair the committee. “Harvest Days is probably my biggest project, but it’s so much fun,” she said.

“Candy is more than willing to do anything that needs to be done,” Mayor JoAnn Seghini said. “She has a firm commitment to helping in the community and she gets other people to take part in community activities as well.”

Harvest Days is Midvale’s annual weeklong celebration held the first week in August. Most of the work is done during the summer, but meetings begin in January for each year’s committee.

Earlier this year, Tippets decided to add Midvale’s community council to her busy schedule. The community council meets monthly and learns about issues involving Midvale, such as zoning and development proposals.

If her work in Midvale wasn’t enough, Tippets also chairs the March of Dimes Gala and the Ronald McDonald House Gala. This year, she decorated a tree benefiting Primary Children’s Medical Center for the Festival of Trees through her work. “I like being involved, and I like always having a big project going on,” Tippets said.

With a packed schedule of community service, Tippets refuses to pick a pet project. “I don’t have a favorite,” she said. “It’s whatever I’m working on at that moment.”
