Meet Navajo Elders, learn their customs, and buy a rug. Admission is $5 of canned food

The 22nd annual Navajo Rug Show and Sale takes place at Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Lodge, November 11 – 13, 2011.  Guests enjoy Native American culture through song, dance, storytelling and artwork and to help support area Native American elders by purchasing their custom-created rugs, jewelry and art.

The Rug Show and Sale opens on Friday evening at Deer Valley’s Snow Park Lodge. (That's the lodge at the base of Deer Valley and there's tons of easy parking.) The Show and Sale continue on Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day. Admission price is $5 cash and/or $5 worth of donated canned goods, per day. 

On Saturday, a Navajo Children’s Princess Pageant will take place at 10 a.m., a weaving demonstration at 1 p.m. and a Navajo Grandma Idol contest at 4 p.m. On Sunday, there will be a Navajo Veteran’s Ceremony at 10 a.m., a weaving demonstration at 1 p.m. and a POWWOW at 3 p.m.

Those who wish to attend the opening on Friday evening enjoy a fundraiser from 6 – 10 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres, refreshments, Native American and Western entertainment and the rug exhibit will thrill guests.  Live entertainment (cowboy poetry and cowboy music) will take place from 7 – 8 p.m. A live auction of donated artwork, trips and special gift packages will take place between 8 – 9 p.m.  The Grandmothers will offer a 10 percent discount on all rugs purchased Friday evening. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children under 12.  They can be purchased at the door or with a credit card by calling (435) 649-0535.

When you go: Take Insterstate 80 East, and get off at the Park City exit. Follow the signs into Park City and beyond to Deer Valley Resort.
