The Winter Olympics may be over but the motivation and inspiration they brought doesn't have to end. It's now time to put down the remote, get off the couch and head over to Curves. Curves, at 1844 East Fort Union Boulevard, is a one-stop fitness and weight loss facility with staff ready to help you look and feel your best.

The Curves facility is truly designed with women in mind. Owner and manager Elaine Quraishi says Curves offers a comfortable place for women to get a complete workout, from head to toe, without spending hours and money on a personal trainer.

"What is unique about our program is that it's a combination of cardio and strength training," Elaine says. "In just 30 minutes, you can burn 500 calories."

Both the working mom and stay-at-home mom can benefit from this efficient approach to exercise. Elaine says it doesn't matter what fitness level a person is in when they come to the facility because the machines are for all fitness levels.

"Gyms can be very intimidating and uncomfortable for women. Curves is so appealing because it's smaller and there's tons of support from staff and other members," Elaine says.

The staff also makes the experience comfortable since they give each member personalized attention and know each member by name.

The machines are user-friendly which takes the guess work out of exercise. Members don't have to waste time making the adjustments according to their strength or height. Curves uses hydraulic machines that are ready to go. The user can get more resistance depending on how hard they're willing to work. The cylinder builds up more resistance as the user moves faster.

The machines also have a built-in personalized coaching system allowing each member to track progress and set goals.

"People tend to get lackadaisical with their workout routine," Elaine says. "The personalized coaching system allows you to get your results and then increase the expectations so you are working on reaching goals to challenge yourself."

What Elaine likes best about the program is that it brings strength training into the workout routine.

"I like Curves because the strength training part of it is something women tend to neglect," she says.

This is so important since a natural part of getting older is losing lean body mass or muscle. That is why it's easier to pack on the pounds, even without a change in diet. Strength training has been shown to increase the metabolism by adding more lean muscle, and muscle burns more calories. Strength training has also been shown to increase bone density which is also important with getting older.

"People also tend to lose lean body tissue when they diet and so strength training can compensate for that," Elaine says.

Curves also offers its members a free weight management program, providing nutritional classes and a diet plan to follow along with accountability with weekly weigh-ins. Elaine invites you to drop by for a free workout session. For more information call 801-942-3664.
